3 Ways I'm Using Substack's New Group Chats
Substack added a feature that solves a problem I've had for two years. Here's what I'm doing with it.
In case you missed it, Substack rolled out something new a few days ago:
Group Chats!
You can now start private group chats, similar to Facebook. This is great because before, this was not possible. You only had two options:
Direct DM’s
Subscriber Chat
It sounds like something minor since we already have notes, comments, and subscriber chats. But this is different because you can have an ongoing space built only for a specific group of people, without having to lock up your subscriber chat.
I never liked locking up my subscriber chats, or sending out a message that only paid subscribers can view. So for me, this is fantastic!
Anyways. Here are the three ways I am putting this new feature to use:
1. The ARC Team
The permanent ARC team for Christian Book Finder, will now live in a private Substack group chat. You receive early copies of a book before it launches, read it, and leave an honest review the week it goes live.
Other perks to being part of the team:
You pick what you read. When a new ARC opportunity drops in the group, you choose whether it’s for you. You don’t have to say yes to every book, and no assigned reading. If a title doesn’t interest you, skip it.
You get insider sneak peeks. Covers before reveal day, story details before anyone else hears them, and a look behind the curtain at what’s coming next from CBF authors.
You get limited access to our VIP shared drive. Behind-the-scenes files, author materials, and extras we don’t put out publicly.
Your opinion actually shapes something. Early reader feedback helps authors and helps me decide who we spotlight next. You’re not just reading, you’re part of the process.
You’re first in line, every time, for every future book. Once you’re in, you’re in. No re-applying or waiting for an invite for each launch.

2. The VIP Room
VIPs to Christian Book Finder will now have a private group chat to access, right here on Substack, instead of going off platform.
This is huge because taking people off the Substack platform is… rather annoying. For you and your subscribers.
3. Collaborations and Networks.
The Christian Historian already had this idea in mind. You can now start private chats with other authors, writers, and creators. This is a great way to connect with others and share your work.
