DEVOTIONAL DAY 3 — The Noise That Drowns Out God
When your mind is so full, there’s no room left for clarity
There’s a mental fog that slips in after too much screen time. It’s quiet, subtle, and easy to miss. You’re not necessarily overwhelmed — just kind of……strangely tired, unfocused, and disconnected in a way that doesn’t make sense for someone who’s been sitting down staring at a phone.
That fog comes from noise. Not the loud kind — the constant kind.
Notifications, feeds, opinions, ads, videos, updates, arguments… none of them feel heavy by themselves, but together they fill your mind to the point where you don’t have much internal space left. And a crowded mind makes it hard to hear anything meaningful, especially the things God’s been trying to get through to you.
Most people don’t experience real quiet anymore. Not stillness. Not mental space. Just a nonstop stream of stimulation that feels “normal” until you step out of it and wonder why you suddenly feel like you can breathe again.
You see it the second you sit still. The room goes quiet, and you immediately reach for your phone because silence feels uncomfortable. You’re not bored — your brain just forgot how to rest.
And that’s where the problem starts:
a distracted mind can’t process anything, let alone hear God.
Clarity doesn’t come from more content or better content.
It comes from making space.
And right now, your phone fills every available inch of your mental space before God gets a chance to speak into it.
So today’s practice is simple:
Give yourself ten uninterrupted minutes of quiet.
No phone.
No music.
No background noise.
Just a moment where you don’t reach for anything.
At first, it’ll feel uncomfortable.
Your thoughts will bounce.
You’ll think of things you “should” be doing.
Your hand might instinctively move toward your pocket.
Let it pass.
You don’t need to force a deep prayer or create some dramatic spiritual moment. Just let your mind settle. Let the noise drop for a bit. Let your thoughts slow down long enough to notice what’s going on beneath the surface.
When the noise fades, even briefly, what’s been buried under it finally has room to rise — clarity, conviction, rest, focus, even peace.
God doesn’t usually shout over the noise.
He waits for the space you rarely give Him.
Day 3 is about making that space on purpose.
Tomorrow we’ll talk about how to create rhythms that help you stay clear instead of constantly getting pulled back into the fog.
But for today?
Just breathe.
You’ll be surprised how much becomes clear when the noise finally quiets down.
