The Storm That Saved Her
How Hurricane Ian Brought Jamie to Her Knees-and to New Life in Christ
You ever have one of those moments where everything in your life hits you at once? Like you’ve been drifting through, thinking you’re fine, and then all of a sudden, God shows up in the middle of your chaos and flips the whole table?
That was
’s story and It happened during a hurricane. She thought she’d been through tough storms before—hard seasons, heartbreaks, nights she didn’t think she’d survive. But this one was different. This was the storm that finally tore through her pride and showed her what grace actually feels like.
Welcome friend,
I’m Mark, and this space is for the wanderers, the worn out, and the ones still wrestling with God at 2 a.m. I don’t have all the answers, but I know the One who does—and I’m learning to trust Him more.

Roots of Faith
’s story started long before she ever met the storm. Her mom—a young Jewish woman—had come to know Jesus through Jews for Jesus before Jamie was even born.
She grew up hearing about God, going to Catholic school on and off, saying prayers at bedtime. But it never really stuck. She knew about God but didn’t know Him personally.
And if we’re honest, a lot of us get stuck there—thinking we know God just because we know His name.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.” — Jeremiah 1:5
A lot of people think being around church equals being close to God. But that’s not how it works. You can sit in a pew your whole life and still miss the presence of the One who’s been sitting beside you all along.
The Wander Years
As Jamie got older, faith faded into the background. She tried to take control of her own life—and it didn’t go well.
“I was my own shepherd,” she said. “And I was a mess.”
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way.” — Isaiah 53:6
She’d been through things that left scars. The kind of wounds that make you push people away. So, she built walls—big, tall, and cold. If love hurt, fear felt safer.
“If I couldn’t make someone fear me,” she said, “then they’d become an example.”
That kind of strength wasn’t strength at all—it was pain wearing a disguise.
Pain will convince you to control what you can because you’re scared to lose what you love. But God doesn’t wait on the other side of our walls—He walks right through them.
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
The Night the Storm Came
When Hurricane Ian hit, Jamie wasn’t scared at first. She’d faced storms before. But this one… it wasn’t just outside—it was inside.
The wind roared like a freight train. The roof began to lift. Her daughters were crying. Every crash of thunder felt like judgment shaking her soul.
And in that chaos, something inside her broke.
“I hated who I’d become,” she said. “I hated what I’d made of my life.”
For the first time, she couldn’t control anything. She didn’t even speak out loud. Her soul just cried.
And right then—right in the middle of the wind and the chaos—the storm went quiet.
“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Peace! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.” — Mark 4:39
Sometimes, the breaking isn’t punishment—it’s mercy. That night wasn’t about destruction, but deliverance.
“Be Still and Know That I am God” - Pslam 46:10
When the World Went Silent
After Ian passed, the quiet hit hard. No power. No cell service. No distractions. Just silence.
And maybe for the first time ever, that silence felt like peace.
“I spent those weeks in the Word with God,” she said. “It was like I’d been walking around with sunglasses on for fifty years, and suddenly I took them off. Everything looked different.”
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105
God began rebuilding her piece by piece. Her anxiety lifted. The need to numb faded. Relationships that once felt impossible began to heal. Her kids forgave her. Her parents forgave her. She forgave herself.
“There is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still.”
— Corrie ten Boom

Challenge For the Reader
Here’s a little challenge for you this week:
Think of one thing you’ve been trying to control—that might be your job, your health, your kids, or even something you’ve been praying about but still trying to handle on your own.
Now, I want you to give it to God. Really give it to Him.
Each morning, say this simple prayer:
“Lord, I’m handing this over to You. Help me trust You with it.”
And then… let Him have it. Don’t snatch it back halfway through the day.
By the end of the week, write down what changed. You might be surprised how peace starts showing up where stress used to live.
The Healing That Followed
Three years later, Jamie still walks free.
She’s by no means perfect—but she’s different.
“Our God is so faithful and loving,” she says. “I never deserved His grace. I never could. But He gave it anyway.”
“For by grace you have been saved through faith… it is the gift of God.” — Ephesians 2:8
She’s helping others now. Telling them about the God who met her in the middle of a storm and brought her safely home.

Your story matters. Someone out there needs to hear what God has done in you.

Captivating. Your description of Jamie's breaking point and subseqent realisation of grace is so vivid. It really makes me think, what if these profound shifts are less about external forces and more about an internal software update, triggered by extreme conditions? A total system reboot.
Thank you for all you do. This was humbling and an honor. If He saved me? He will save anyone who turns to Him. I hope this testimony can serve others. May His light shine ❤️🙏
