Sometimes salvation doesn’t begin in a church pew or a revival tent. Sometimes it starts in a quiet bedroom with lilac walls, a racing heart, and a seven-year-old who just can’t sleep.
This is the story of one little girl’s moment with God — a story that began with a children’s sermon, a restless night, and a bowl of chocolate ice cream that tasted like heaven’s victory.
Welcome friend,
I’m Mark, and this space is for the wanderers, the worn out, and the ones still wrestling with God at 2 a.m. I don’t have all the answers, but I know the One who does—and I’m learning to trust Him more.

A Sunday Story That Stuck
It was a Sunday morning in the mid-1970s, the kind of Sunday when everything felt familiar — the scent of old hymnals, the chatter of families, and the polished wood of the pews.
The children were invited to sit in the front that morning. It was “story time,” when the pastor would share a message just for them.
That day, he told a story about a little boy who wasn’t a Christian — not yet — but who would later give his heart to Jesus. It was simple, sure. But sometimes, simplicity is where truth shines brightest.
Something about that story landed deep in her little heart.
didn’t understand theology. She didn’t need to. She just knew what she’d heard was real — and that she wanted what that boy in the story had.The Restless Night
That Sunday evening, her head hit the pillow in her lilac-painted bedroom, and the story came rushing back. The room was quiet except for the faint ticking of a clock on the dresser.
She lay there, clinching her stuffed animal dog, thinking about heaven, hell, and everything in between — big thoughts for a seven-year-old heart. A mix of fear and conviction washed over her.
She whispered a prayer, trembling a little:
“God, please don’t come back tonight. I’m not ready.”
It wasn’t rehearsed or elegant. It was real. And that’s all God needed.
Sleep finally came, but peace didn’t.
Monday Night: The Moment Everything Changed
The next day came and went like any other. Breakfast, school, playtime, supper. Nothing unusual. But as bedtime rolled around, something stirred again in her heart.
The moment her head hit her flowery pillowcase, the same fear — the same conviction — returned.
She couldn’t ignore it.
If Jesus came back tonight, I wouldn’t be ready.
That thought made her heart race faster than ever before. She couldn’t stand it any longer.
So she got up, walked briskly down the hall, and blurted out to her parents,
“I want to get saved!”
There it was. No fancy words. Just a child’s bold confession.
Her parents didn’t hesitate. They knelt with her right there in the family room, beside the old coffee table. Tears flowed. A prayer was said. And in that simple, sacred moment — salvation came.
The weight lifted. The fear was gone.
She was new.
As the Bible says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17
People sometimes say that God or the Holy Spirit doesn’t speak to children.
But she’ll tell you otherwise.
Because that night, she felt the Holy Spirit’s conviction deep in her little heart — as real and alive as the warmth of her parent’s embrace when she cried those tears. She’s living proof that God can move even in the smallest hearts with the biggest faith.
Chocolate Ice Cream and a Clear Conscience
Afterward, her parents called the pastor to share the good news. The joy in their voices filled the whole room. And because she was seven, there was only one fitting way to celebrate — with a big bowl of chocolate ice cream.
That night, she climbed back into bed, no longer afraid. Her heart was light. Her mind was calm. Her soul was safe.
She fell asleep not as a worried little girl — but as a brand-new child of God.
And for the first time in days, she slept like a baby.
Decades Later: The Faithful Hand of God
Now, decades later, she still remembers that night like it was yesterday. The sights, the smells, the sound of the old flooring and worn shag carpet— all of it.
Through the years, she’s seen her share of storms. She’s strayed, stumbled, and sinned more times than she’d like to admit. But even when she walked away, God never did.
As A.W. Tozer once wrote:
“The faithful Christian life is not a straight path but a continual return to the God who never left.”
And that’s been her story — a life marked by mercy and not perfection.
The Christian walk doesn’t mean life will be easy. It means Jesus walks beside you — through every heartbreak, failure, and joy.
And that, she says with a smile, has made all the difference.
